In 1908 The YMCA of Youngstown offered a college level course in commercial law. This evening class consisted of nine men. One hundred years later, Youngstown State University offers more than 30 associate, bachelor, master and doctoral degrees to over 13,000 students.
With over fifty buildings, and hundreds of classrooms Youngstown State University is proud to have sculpted over 85,000 alumni.
In 1933 a radio announcer made the comment that the then Youngstown Collage basketball players were just standing around like a bunch of Penguins. That comment gave Youngstown it's mascot, and now Youngstown State University is The Home Of The Penguins!
Now that Youngstown State University has celebrated a century of growth it continues to look to the future. In 2009 ground was broken for the new School Of Business.
