This is one of many granite posts used to mark the "corner" points on the boundary lines between towns in Massachusetts, in this case, the Town of Topsfield and the Town of Wenham. Only the letter "T" is visible. The marker is approximately eight inches square and six inches high.
The marker is located on the southeast side of the Salem Beverly Waterway Canal, about 1.6 miles from the pump house. This canal was built in 1917, and dredged and widened in 1974. It appears the marker was nearly covered by the earth berm supporting the service road. A white six inch PVC pipe about six feet high has been installed next to the stone marker. This pipe is easily seen from 1/3 mile away on the service road.
The next adjacent marker heading north is
Topsfield-Wenham 2 (T-W2), 990 feet.
The next adjacent marker heading south is
Topsfield-Wenham 4 (T-W4), 1215 feet.
There are also three geocaches along the canal.
