Marker Name: Second Wasco County Courthouse
Marker Text: Completed in 1881, this building is the second of three courthouses which may be seen in The Dalles today. It exhibits characteristics of the then-popular Italianate style of architecture. The courthouse contained county offices on the first floor, jail in the rear, and a large courtroom on the second floor. It was occupied by Wasco County until 1914 when the current courthouse was built at Fifth and Washington Streets. Subsequently, the building was used as a fraternal meeting hall by the Masonic Orders and as a funeral parlor. The original Wasco County Courthouse stands at 404 West Second Street.
