'This bridge was opened to the public
by The Right Honourable Earl Cowper K.C.
21st day of October 1884

The second plaque is as so:
'County Bridge
The reconstruction of this bridge was commemorated by
H.M. Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire
Samuel C. Whitbread Esq. J.P.
This 10th day of August 1992.'
