The always cool waters of the Lumber River or Lumbee River as some locals call this waterway are inviting on the scorching humid Dog Days of July and August. Along this waterway are several swimming holes, this is one with the most open and widest beach area. People come to spend the day. picnic, swim and socialize. Many impromptu BBQ's have sprung up on the banks of this river after a day of swimming. A word of warning, the only draw back to these swimming holes is that you swim at your own risk as their are no formal lifeguards on duty.
