The plaque is positioned on a building in the southeast quadrant at the intersection of Main Street and St. Paul Street. As of this writing, the plaque is located just below the sign for Souza's Churrascaria Brazilian Steakhouse. The text reads as follows:
Site of The American House
1808 - 1893
Presidents Monroe, Van Buren, Pierce, Grant, Generals Scott, Wool, Hampton, Henry Clay and other famous people entertained here.
The cornerstone of the current building gives the date of 1910.
