The inscription reads as follows:
'Water pump believed to have been used between 1900 - 1925 by the village wheelwrights, which was sited at the now residential Duncots Close. Manufactured, in the late 19th century by the Coalbrookedale Company. (Makers of the first iron bridge). Nov. 2002, Ickleford Parish Council.'
