This is actually two separate displays, one of the two whales and another of the tail, that grace the entrance to the Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, part of the University of California, San Diego. The statues are located directly adjacent to the entrance plaza, and they can be seen by either parking in the nearby lot (free for three hours) or simply traveling the circular drop-off road. No plaque/artist information is available.
More information about the aquarium can be found at www.aquarium.ucsd.edu.
