The original church was built in 1750, but destroyed in a fire almost 50 years later. It was rebuilt around 1820 and used by different congregations on rotating Sundays. In 1950, a storm caused devastating damage and the church was torn down to salvage the bricks.
Today, only the front facade remains with the bell tower and bell still intact. But the old church suffers from serious structural damage and is held together with iron rods. The wooden belfry and cornice are rotting away. It is even feared the bell could fall and cause considerable damage.
UPDATE: The bell was removed from the tower on 12/10/2011 for safekeeping. (Certain sections of this waymark have been edited to reflect this.) See photos
