St Anthony steps are so named for the large yellow brick church located at the base of these public steps. After 230 steps, the stairway ends at the corner of a Pittsburgh public school.

In 2009, the steps made the local news for a criminal act that occurred in a house adjacent to the stairway (http://www.pittsburghpost-gazette.com/pg/09134/970110-53.stm )

The stairways were built in the 1930's in a massive public works project. Construction materials are concrete slabs and metal handle bars.
