This arch is a memorial and a relic at the same time of the fire of the old railway station in 1971.

The arch used to be the main entry portal of the old railway station from 1869. This building burned down completely on February 5th, 1971.
The new railway station was built some 50 meters further South, so now the old entry is in the center of the bus terminal between the new railway station and the ship landing.
