H.M. "Muggins" Taylor was nicknamed for his favorite card game, Muggins. He was a scout for the Montana Column commanded by General John Gibbon. He is most famous for discovering the remains of General George Custer and his men after their defeat in the Battle of Little Bighorn. He then rode to Fort Ellis near Bozeman, the closest telegraph, to report the massacre. Later in life we was a deputy sheriff and gunned down in and killed in 1882 at the Coulson's laundry when he attempted to stope the laudress' drunken husband from beating her.
