A bit south of the historic Norton Building, on the north side of the canal. A nice bike trail parallels the canal for many miles.
The I&M Canal was built in the mid 1800's to link the Chicago area to the Mississippi River. It became obsolete by the end of that century as rail travel became more ubiquitous. The towpath along the canal was converted to a trail and bike path over the years. The CCC helped make this part of the path a bit more traveller-friendly!
