This clock is located on the campus of Virginia State University in the tower of Virginia Hall, the building that houses the administrative offices for the university. The original building was completed in 1888 after five years of construction, but in 1937 it was demolished due to inadequate footings. The new building was completed in 1937. The finial above the clock is a benchmark / intersection station (PID = GV5410).
Virginia State University, founded as Virginia Normal and Collegiate Institute in 1882, is the nation's oldest land grant college for African-Americans.
