From about 1840 to 1900, this property was a resort hotel. In 1912 it became a boys' camp, closing in 1966. In 1967 the property was purchased by the state as a mainland support facility for nearby Burton Island State Park. The boat ramp was blasted out of the rock and a rock and concrete jetty constructed to shield the ramp from the open lake.

The mainland site eventually became a separate state park, but continued as a support facility for the island with ferry service. Many prefer to use their own boats to get to the island.

Fee is that paid for day use entry to the park: $3 per adult, $2 per child. Ferry is additional.
