Headquarters for the 911 dispatch, EMS and EM for Scotland Co is located at 1403 West Boulevard in Laurinburg, NC. The facility is situated on the county government complex on the east end of the campus. This organization serves a population of approximately 36,000 people in an area of 318 square miles. Officially organized in the mid 70's to replace funeral home ambulance services that were discontinuing operations, the group started out with 4 employees and 2 used ambulances. With additional training and equipment mandates by the state, the department grew quickly. In the beginning, a driver's license and an American Red Cross First Aid was all that was required. With growth, the cadre progressed to basic EMT level through intermediate status to the present paramedic level. Coverage today is as it has been since inception, a 24 hour/day service.
