Originally painted as a frog, whale and turtle, the rock formation has been a bald eagle since Jason Sawyer painted it in 1989 while a student at RHAM High School. By 2002, East Hampton resident Tara Graham took over the painting duties as the artists' signatures on the rock can attest.
