This is indeed a unusual place to find a compass rose, in the middle of the sidewalk corner. If you visit in the summer, try not to get run over by the throngs of people intent on getting to the boardwalk to visit Gillian's Wonderland Pier. The compass says the beach is SW from this spot, and it definitely is.
