At the northeastern end of Herrs Island, where the North Shore Trail has a terminal loop, there is an elevated lookout where you can view the Allegheny River and the Washington Crossing Bridge, as well as anything else that is floating on the river. Beautiful water is framed by green plants on both shores of the river.
To get to this location, from the north side of the Allegheny River, follow the North Shore Bike Trail northeast, past the old Heinz manufacturing plant to the Herr Island trestle bridge and continue along the trail to the end. There is a limited view from the bike trail loop, but, if you follow the stairs down to another level, you have a much less obstructed view.
There are no amenities at this location. Car parking may be possible on the island but I'm not sure what would be public parking areas.
The North Shore Trail is part of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail.
