This corrugated iron HQ Holden Kingswood was transformed by artist Jeff Thomson who then drove it around New Zealand and Australia before it was finally parked at the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa, in Wellington.(Presently in storage)

Artist Jeff Thomson clad this car in heavy gauge corrugated iron and then drove it around for three years.
The car was registered and driven on the roads of both New Zealand and Australia. He did, however, have trouble getting a warrant in Australia because of the rust to the body of the car (not the corrugated iron). The iron comes from the Criterion Hotel in Napier, which burnt down. Presumably the vehicle can still be driven although it may not have a current W.O.F. (Warrant of Fitness).
The HQ Holden Kingswood station wagon, 1991, that is made from heavy gauge corrugated iron was purchased from Jeff Thomson in 1996 with New Zealand Lottery Grants Board funds. It was on display in Wellington's Te Papa Museum on the waterfront, parked in the Made In New Zealand section. The Museum is open every day of the year, including public holidays.
Hours: 10am-6pm, except on Thursdays, open 10am-9pm.
Entry is FREE.
NOTE: Jeff Thomson’s corrugated iron HQ Holden has been on display at Te Papa since the museum first opened in 1998 but, on Tuesday 25 May 2010, the car will be moving to their collection storage area for a well-earned rest.
The car is being moved so a new long-term history exhibition can be built on Level 4. The museum will be looking at bringing it out of storage sometime, so please do inquire at the museum if you wish to view this exhibit.
