Atrist Bartolo Mako, School Activities (Pageant of Education), 1938. Lou Henry Hoover School, Camilla Street at Alta Avenue, Whittier.

Lou Henry Hoover School was designed in 1938 by architect William Harrison. It was built as a WPA Project in the Art Moderne style.(Whittier City School District has taken special care to maintain its historical and aesthetic integrity.) The Frieze depicts a scene of the early Quakers who founded the city of Whittier more than one hundred years ago. There is also a quote by Von Humbold, "What you would want in the life of a nation you must first put into its schools."
Lou Henry Hoover was the wife of President Herbert Hoover.
