The steps lead from the Via Garibaldi below to the church of San Pietro in Montorio. On the sides of the public throughway are tabernacles housing stations of the cross.
Each year, in preparation for midnight mass on Christmas Day on December 25th, the public pedestrian way is decorated with lighted candles.
