In an area called Station Square that has converted a former industrial steel industry zone into a tourist center with hotels, retail shops, and restaurants, the fountain provides entertainment with its animated water-play in a background of popular pop music tunes.

The courtyard where the fountain is located is named Bessemer Court, for the name of the industrial apparatus that ornates the courtyard, a Bessemer Converter, a relic of the steel industry legacy of the city of Pittsburgh
