At the Battle of Monmouth, General George Washington forced the retreat of the British Army...a triumph for both General Washington and the Continental Army. On the northwest corner of the historic Monmouth Battlefield, the Old Tennent Church was used as a field hospital for wounded soldiers. Now the graves of soldiers from this, and many future wars stand in honor.
In the waves of graves that sit in the right of the church, this time worn headstone marks the grave of John Craig, Revolutionary War Veteran. A nearby stone that was erected by the Daughters of the American Revolution list Craig as one of the many patriot soldeirs that fought in the Battle of Monmouth and are buried within this cemetery.
Unfortunately, the headstone is quite time worn, and the exact date of death is unclear. A metal marker is set signifying the grave of a Revolutionary War Veteran.
