The trail to the summit of Mt Bogong (1,986 metres) begins at the Mountain Creek picnic area and follows a vehicle track to the foot of the aptly named Staircase Spur, where the ascent begins through a forest of peppermint gums. Bivouac Hut, about halfway along the climb, offers a welcome resting place before the track passes through snow gums and alpine scrub and out on to the summit plain.

The Staircase Spur is a very hard hike, it is soo steep that your legs will feel like jelly.
When passed the tree line ond out on the summit ridge it is very exposed and can be deadly if a storm rolls in, if doing this in winter be sure to pack warm clothes because the track will be covered in snow. people have died on this track in white outs so make sure you are prepared.

I went up there for the 2009 conquestathon in which if you get to the checkpoints before the cut off time you will get a medalion. this fundraiser cost $20 AUD and it goes to the lions club. this is held on the 6th of march every year.
