This village was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Riston
the church is dedicated to St Michael and is 3/4 of a mile from Ryston Hall [ now a golf club] it is built of Ragstone and Brick, in the Perpendicular style, and consists of a chancel, nave and south porch and a western brick tower this was rebuilt in 1858 by E.R. Pratt. the old one having been in ruins for 300years.
there is an inscription on one of the bells " PERENTE DULCE CANON T OSBORN FECIT 1789"
The church was re roofed in 1660 by Sir Roger Pratt and the chancel restored in 1862 when a fine oaken roof was discovered about 500 years old, beneat the plaster, this was repaired as were the two curious windows in the south porch, who also re roofed the nave in 1901.
the open bench seats were erected in 1832 are of oak and will hold 100 people.
the font is octagonal and plain the floor is tiled and the windows are of stained glass. there are also some memorials to the Pratt family a tomb surrounded by iron railings showing a recling female figure is that of Lucy Pratt.
