Lucky Peak Dam is a rolled earth and gravel fill dam built in 1955 by the Army Corp of Engineers. Originally made for irrigation and flood control, electricity generation was added in 1988. The painted rock sign "Keep Your Forests Green" is clearly seen while driving past the dam.
The capacity of the Lucky Peak reservoir is approximately 300,000 acre feet of water and almost 50 miles of shoreline. Located just 10 miles away from Boise on State Highway 21, the reservoir is a popular recreation area.
