In the central portion of the MIT campus, near the Green Building, a tall building with a radar dome at the top, stands a tall black steel statue with angular fins. This sculpture is titled, "The Big Sail." According to a plaque mounted by the sculpture, it was created in 1966 by Alexander Calder and presented as a gift by Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McDermott.
