The SOUTHERN HOTEL, NW. corner 1st St. and Broadway, a three-story brick building, was one of the leading Western hotels in the 1850's. This old structure, which shows plainly the marks of time and recurring floods, is used by temporary occupants for various commercial purposes. - Kentucky: A Guide to the Bluegrass State, 1939, Paducah section, pg. 226.

The Southern Hotel no longer exists.  The location is now a parking lot used by those exploring the historic district and market district of Paducah.
