Designed by Joseph Dillon and L.A. Des Jardins, construction began in 1924 on this massive 3½-story brick building built in a modified cruciform plan. Described as Collegiate Gothic with a detectable Jacobean Revival influence, its scale and style are unique in south central Colorado. In 1926, the Benedictine Monks established the Abbey School, which has played an important role in the history of education in the area. For many yaers the abby alo served as a bvoys school.
Also on the grounds is the Holy cross Winery.
