In 1898 the idea was thrown around to create a market that would attract farmers to Edmonton. From 1900-1964 the area that is now occupied by the Stanly A. Milner library was the market area. In 1965 the market was moved to 97 Street and 102 Ave. It was an important commercial and social centre for Edmonton.
The marker is located by the Winspear Theatre, just north of the main entrance.
