Per the NPS information sign at the house, "The Andrew Johnson Homestead was the last home of Andrew Johnson (1808-1875), 17th President of the United States (1865-1869). Congressman Andrew Johnson purchased the house and half-acre lot... in September 1951... Restored in 1956-57, the Homestead appears as it did during the last years of the former President's life."
