Grace Episcopal Church was organized in 1848 and met in the home of Adam Rankin. The first structure built for the church was a wood frame building constructed of lumber cut in in Louisville and floated down stream to Paducah. The building was located on the riverfront near Market street and was consecrated on April 21, 1851. During the Civil War the building was taken over by the Union Army and used as a hospital.

The cornerstone for the current church building was laid on April 26, 1873. The church was an important early work of a major High Victorian Gothic architect, Henry M. Congdon of New York. The church was dedicated June 21, 1874. The church has been expanded over the years including the addition of the tower. The building continues to serve its congregation.
