The History of the Edgerton United Methodist Church

1857: Methodist Episcopal Church organized at the home of O. Hulett in the town of McCamish.
1869: Church built in Lanesfield, Kansas.

1871: Church moved to Edgerton, corner of 3rd and Nelson.

1872: First Sunday School organized.

1913: Present building at 4th and Hulett constructed and dedicated.

1939: Methodist Episcopal Church, Methodist Episcopal Church South and Methodist Protestant Church united to form the Methodist Church.

1958: Edgerton Presbyterian Church and Edgerton Methodist Church merged to become Edgerton Community Methodist Church.

1966: Parsonage built across the street from the church.

1968: Evangelical United Brethren and Methodists merged to form the United Methodist Church. Edgerton church renamed Edgerton United Methodist Church.

1987: Church used in film, Kansas. Several members were extras and Rev. Francis Stockton had a small speaking role.

1990-1996: Properties next to and across the street from the church purchased for new parking lots.

1996: Construction of the new church addition began, using mostly volunteer labor.

1997: Addition dedicated. It's first use was a surprise birthday party for Martin Fesmire's 80th birthday.

2003: My Neighbor's Closet clothing pantry opens its doors.

2003: Several EUMC member families commissioned to help start FirstLight UMC in Gardner.
