Washington Street Missionary Baptist Church was organized in 1855 in a log cabin near the current church. Because there were no ministers among the slave the church was led by George Brent, member of the Paducah First Baptist Church. The second building for the church was a frame building built by slaves, under the leadership of Rev. George W. ("Pappy") Dupree, the first pastor constituted on February 4, 1855. The next building for the church was a Colonial styled brick structure built in 1893 and reconstructed after a fire in 1942. The current church building had its cornerstone laid June 18, 1967 and was dedicated in 1969.
