This welcome sign is on the border of Hallandale, Florida. The city of Aventura is fairly new. Most of what would later become the City of Aventura was initially developed during the late 1970s and into the 80s as a high-rise residential area by Oxford Development Company, when the area was still mostly swampland known as "Biscayne Gardens".
The Story Behind the Name
"The city name is from the Spanish word for "adventure," and was named "Aventura" after one of the developers of the original group of condominiums in the area remarked to the others, "What an adventure this is going to be." (Wikipedia)
During my visit, I rode my bike up and down this road and the city seemed to be entirely in a state of construction. It was also hard to figure out where the town ended, but it did seem smallish. On the southern end is Miami.
