The Masonic Cemetery is on the north side of Metropolis and is the final resting place of a couple thousand people. The most famous person buried in the cemetery is John Marvin Steele, he was the soldier who hung from the steeple of St. Mere Eglise Church in France on D-Day, June 5, 1944 and was portrayed in the movie "The Longest Day"
