This survey disk is easy to find, but getting there requires being attentive to the traffic along this busy multi-lane road. The disk itself is set in concrete at the base of the control tower for two bascule type draw bridges that cross over the remaining portion of the Broad Canal in near Kendall Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. To get there, from Memorial Drive at Massachusetts Avenue, travel east along Memorial Drive (the Charles River Basin will be on your right) to a split in the road. Take the RIGHT ramp that takes you under the Longfellow Bridge to Boston. After passing under the Longfellow Bridge, about 0.1 mile further north you will cross a drawbridge and the mark to the left of the vehicle. The name of the road is either First Street or Land Boulevard. Parking is possible along the road (some spaces may be restricted or metered) or in a garage for the Cambridge Galleria about 1/2 mile down Land Boulevard.

The mark is located on the side of the tower nearest the canal and the east bound lanes of the road. The mark is approximately 7 feet west from the edge of the east bound lanes (which take a more northerly course at this point), approximately 6 inches from edge to the wall on the Broad Canal side, and about 1 foot above the surface of the road.

The bridges may still operate, but since the canal ends approximately 200 feet from the bridges, there is little need for boats to travel that way, and I have yet to see the bridges in the up position for several years [not that I'm watching these bridges every day].

The mark is a disk with the words, "U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey - Bench Mark - " along the edge of the disk plus the statement about information and penalties for tampering with it. Inside these words are the hand engraved characters, "T32" and "1965".

The mark is in good condition.
