Following a one and a quarter mile circular route on the northern edge of the gardens this miniature railway has a 12 ¼” gauge track. The entire trip takes about twenty minutes. The journey begins at the Exbury Central Station, continuing into the Summer Lane Garden where a bridge, tunnel, causeway and series of individual themed gardens can be viewed. This is exclusive to the train and can only be seen from having a ride on the railway. Also present here are woodland moss animals, including deer, rabbits, a squirrel, fox and frog, together with contemporary metal sculptures.
There are superb views of the Rock Garden from the next part of the journey which leads to a steep gradient with a curving timber viaduct with views over the Wildlife Ponds. Then the train passes a Plant Nursery, a Pumpkin / Exotic Fruit Patch then on to a second lake where "Hump-phrey, The Lake Moss Monster" lives. The Sunflower Field and the Domesday Yew are passed.
There is a second station called Exbury North Halt in the American Garden where you can jump off and explore on foot if you want to.
