The First Presbyterian Church in Cairo was founded 1852. The first church was built beginning in 1855 at 8th and Walnut Street. By 1892, the congregation had outgrown it building and decided to build a new building, this time further to the north as the congregation was more located on the north side of the town. The current church building was constructed beginning in 1893 and completed in 1894.
