The cave has been found by Professor Dr. Hans Brand in 1922. It used to be called "The big devil's hole" until he found out that the cave is a lot bigger than he thought. He removed 9 meters of wall and found a cave which is now about 1.5 kilmoters long.
In there you can find lots of enormous stalagmites, stalagtites and chalk curtains or pillars with wonderful names like "tobacco leafes" or "goliath" which is said to be 30000 years old. The biggest "hall" in there has a height of about 13 meters whith 45 meters of rock above it.
The cave is part of a region called "Frankonian Switzerland" ("Fränkische Schweiz"), which has been formed in the jurassic age when the tropic temperatures let reefs grow. Thoses reefs later bekame chalk stone which was formed again by water. The results are lots of big and small caves and a weird landscape.
Please put in a picture of you or your GPS in or in front of the cave and don't leave any litter.
