"The Bethesda (Presbyterian) Church building was constructed in 1835. During the war, the Church served as a hospital for wounded soldiers from both sides as well as for those suffering from smallpox. Numerous vetrans from the War are buried in the adjoining cemetery". (Reference: "FROM BRIDGE TO BRIDGE" pamphlet that is available from Hamblen County Historical Society)
