Vihorlat Mountains (Slovak: Vihorlatské vrchy; Ukrainian: Vyhorliat) or colloquially Vihorlat is a volcanic mountain range in eastern Slovakia and western Ukraine. A part of the range is listed as a World Heritage Site.

The Slovak part of Vihorlat (55 km long) is the only mountain range in Slovakia that belongs to the Inner Eastern Carpathians. The middle part of the mountains is protected by the Vihorlat Protected Landscape Area. Vihorlat is bordered by the Eastern Slovak Lowland (In Slovak: Východoslovenská nížina) in the south and the west. The Beskidian Piedmont (In Slovak: Beskydské predhorie) separates Vihorlat from the Bukovské vrchy mountains and Laborecká vrchovina highlands in the north.

Kyjovský prales, a primeval beech forest in Vihorlat Mountains, was proclaimed by UNESCO to be a World Heritage Site on June 28, 2007 because of its comprehensive and undisturbed ecological patterns and processes.

The best access to the Vihorlat summit (plan it as whole-day trip, cca 25 km long...!) is from Morské oko lake to red marked touristic path under Motrogon Mt., further on the ridge via Trstie under the Vihorlat summit... And here, short but steep acent to the summit.

Altitude in Feet: 3530
