The annual "Punkin Chunkin" contest is held each fall in Delaware. The competition is divided into several classes, and the point is to fling a 10-inch pumpkin as far as possible using mechanical or human power. This machine, a trebuchet, (a slight improvement on a catapult) holds the 2008 world record in it's class, flinging a pumpkin 1,894.42 feet!
In the "off-season", it is on public display at it's home base in Greenfield, NH. The compound it occupies is a visual feast of medieval-theme fabrications and placements, some quite extreme in scale - see 'roadside attractions' waymark WM68V8 for full gallery of photos.
Each October, the owners conduct demonstrations of it's capabilities using a small fabricated castle on a hill as a target. For video of the world-record event, follow the link below. For a list of records at the 2008 competition, CLICK!
