The Prague Municipal Library (In Czech: Mestská knihovna v Praze) on the Mariánské square was built in 1925-1928 according to the plans of architect František Roith, a student of professor Otto Wagner at the Vienna Academy. The building was conceived as a cultural institution with extensive possibilities of use including exhibition, lecture and concert halls.
In the building's eastern wing there is the official flat of the Prague Mayor, furnished in Art Deco style. The building architecture works from a rationalistically contained layout plan and from simple volume planning. Above the main entrance and balcony balustrade there are allegorical statues from Ladislav Kofránek.
The building facade is covered with travertine, which is used along with brass and artificial stone in interior decoration as well. The author of the ornamental geometric decoration in the central hall ceiling is František Kysela.
