Marker Text: Noted oil historian, biographer of Lincoln, journalist, lived in this house about six years. She was graduated from the Titusville High School in 1875.
Understated sign - She is best-known for her 1904 book The History of the Standard Oil Company, which was listed as #5 out of 100 in a 1999 New York Times list of twentieth-century American journalism. The book increased negative public sentiment against Standard Oil, thus became a piece of evidence in the U.S. government's antitrust case against the Standard Oil Trust which led to its breakup in 1911.
