The town of Lismore is no stranger to flooding. The highest level recorded on this marker (and all round town) is for the 1974 flood. This was 12.2m. However the water actually reached higher in 1954 but the point of measurement has been moved since then and there is not an accurate level that can compare.
This marker is in the main CBD of the city right opposite the original Post Office building. Many businesses have to do a total pack up on a regular basis.
The river is the Wilsons River which joins the Richmond River just downstream of here.
