The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Earth Science Building is hard to miss, since it is the tallest building on campus. In the main part MIT campus, which is bounded by Memorial Drive, Massachusetts Avenue, Vassar Street, Main Street, and Ames Street, stands the MIT Earth Science building, a tall building with a radar dome at the top. On the east face of the building, near the southeast corner is a survey disk mounted vertically approximately 1 1/2 to 2 feet from the ground.

The disk has embossed on it:
"U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey - Benchmark -"
Then words on where you can go for information and penalty statement.

Embossed in the middle is the designation, V36, and the year, 1966.

The mark is in good condition, though abrasion is visible on its face.

For me, this is a special one since it is the first benchmark that I recovered [01-12-2004]!
