This caboose has seen better days, but it has found a nice home at the museum. The numbers have peeled away from the main body of the caboose but are visible above the door.
The Western Pacific Railroad Museum is located in Portola, California, off of Highway 70 in the northern Sierra Mountains. It's a little off the beaten track for most tourists (about 50 miles north of Reno), but the attractions are terrific. Over a hundred rail cars, engines, and cabooses can be found in the yard, many of which you can climb inside. For a fee you can even drive a diesel train! (Reservations required.) The Museum is open 7 days a week 10am - 5pm The first Saturday in April through the first Sunday in November. Admission was only 5$ for adults and $2 for children. For more information about the museum see
the museum website.
