Nancy Hart, noted, beautiful Confederate spy, was seized in July, 1862, while leading an attack in which most of Summersville was burned. She killed her guard with his pistol and escaped. She was buried on Manning Knob [near Richwood, WV in 1902].
This historical marker was placed in 1963 by the West Virginia Historic Commission.
